Question: Can you use an sd card with this phone? The descriptions that I have read say no, but I have a friens who has a v3a from att and she uses one in hers and can also use songs from sd card for ringtones.

Answer: I was looking over these two phones. The AT&T phone has a Sim Card but not an Sd card. Is that what you are thinking of? Also, please note that the AT&T phone is a "V3" where the Alltel phone is a "V3a". The only really difference I can see between the two is the Sim Card (AT&T) versus no Sim Card (Alltel).
